Im looking to buy a paintball gun. I went to my local shop and he recommended the tippmann 98 custom pro. I thought this was a really really nice gun but i was wondering about other guns. I have played woodsball a few times but i was thinking about electronic guns from the $150-$300 range. Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

Learn with the tippmann and when you get better upgrade to an electro, thats the best advice. start off with something you can beat up playing woodsball and learn how to properly maintain a gun and get to know how they work before getting an electro. the tippmann will last you for years and they’re very easy to tinker around with whereas you have more to worry about with an electro. plus the co2 tanks are very cheap these days compared to hpa which will run you around 60 for the smallest one. I’ve owned a tippmann for 10 years and have never had a problem with it, unlike any other gun i’ve purchased.
Electros in that price range will be better than Tippmanns. They operate differently, often meaning there’s less kick & better air efficiency; they’re often smaller & lighter as well. However, some of them need hpa/compressed air, and those tanks cost more than co2 tanks, although hpa is cheaper in the long run (unlimited refills for one price vs. co2 refills costing per fill) and easier on the gun.
Couple options in that price range are the Smart Parts Vibe & SP1. They’ve got some of the advantages listed above but can safely use co2. They’re internally identical, just the SP1 has a more milsim look.
If you have the option of using hpa, those tanks are now as cheap as $50 and it’ll open up many more gun options to you. Proto SLG, Smart Parts Ion/SP8, Dangerous Power G3 (not LE or SE, though), and for a little more, Invert Mini.
Tippmanns are still good beginner guns, just other companies are starting to make true electro-pneumatics cheap enough that even beginners can use something that exhibits a taste of what high ends are like without dropping high end cash.
I am also a woodsballer and i enjoy it alot. I’d recommend getting a gun from Smart Parts (The Ion XE, and NXT Shocker are good) Invert Mini are good guns although they are a little loud, Tippmanns are excellent woodsball guns. most of those are 300 and under. Hope this helps

This is only me, but I have NEVER had an electric gun last me more than a few wars. They’re always breaking on me. But I do own a Tippmann 98 Custom, and that gun has been seriously beaten up, and it still works like it’s brand new. I have never seen a paintball gun more durable than the Tippmann line of paintball guns.
Well If I were you I would have a look at the new dangerous power line of paintball markers the G3 and the Fusion. They can be had for about 299 and compete with guns costing about 5 times as much.. As far as a great place to find one.. see below.
i would not get a tipman they suk owned a few my self not to impress.
i would cough up some more cash and get a ego 06 or 07 there super relaible and w.e u use it for woodsball speedball its a nice gun. easy to clean and super smooth shooting nothing much at all to maintain . and its air effient plus theres a lcd where u can keep track of gun battery modes ur in etc.
well the tipman 98 is the most reliable gun on the market but some good electronic guns are probably the proto slg but also there is the invert mini the invert mini is a great gun.
you can shop for a wide range of paintball guns online. I suggest Buds Police Supply.
spyder electra 09 is good its only 219$ and it shoots about 16 bps
