When deciding on a good gun to buy for you its important to think about what style of player you are (do you play in the back and shoot a lot of paint, or do you play in the front, and try and get a few people out while rushing up the field, take a snake player for example) and what kind of guns your home field shoots (helps with teching your gun when it goes down because other players will be able to give you advice from past experiences). If you are more of a back player you should go with open bolt gun (ego, etek, bob long g6r) but if you play in the front consider closed bolt guns (proto rails, dm's,, reflex's, planet eclipse ethas (new gun looks cheap but ive only heard good stuff about them).

Also, do you mind buying used guns? I just bought a used ego 9 (new pops asa also!) with a full shaft 4 kit the other day for $500... sold the shaft kit for 120 and that puts me at spending a total of 380 for a very nice gun... before you go buying a gun, think about other things like a good hopper (i reccomend buying used rotors they work amazing, great battery and they never jam as long as you keep your paint out of the sun, plus you can pick them up from players for about $100 or so (saving almost half from the pretty high retail price).... if you are looking to spend about $600-700 total on gear this is what i would reccomend.....

home field experienced gun (proto rail or a etha) if you get a rail you will need a aftermarket barrel
     used rotor
carbon fiber tank.. usually people prefer 68/4500 tanks... if you are shorter than normal get a 48 or 50/4500 tank or if you are taller look for a pretty large tank.. (i think they make 90/4500 lol) but thats if you are like 6'4" or taller.... unlikely
A GOOD MASK.... i love my i4's, comfortable, great vision also (dont be convinced by the angel eyes or any mask saying that the amount of sight is greater because i have looked around in my i4's multiple times and they have every cm of vision i could imagine of turning my eyes for....
not always a need for a jersey but i would highly reccomend pants.....
     CLEATS
well thats a shitload of stuff to read but im sure that will answer your question thoroughly... let me know if you need anything else answered

The vest itself shouldn't weigh over 5 pounds but loaded with pods radios a hpa tank(if you run a remote line) it could get upwards of 20 pounds.

It depends on what you get. Some are real light weight and only are about 1.5lb while some can be as heavy as 5lb. The average for a paintball vest is 2 or 3 lb.

How much is to heavy? That's up to you. It is up to the person wearing it, for me i don't care if it is 5lb because for me all i see it as is making the game a lil more of a challenge by adding more weigh to me and giving me more of a work out. When i play woodsball i wear a vest that is about 10lb fully loaded with my tank, pobs, and some tools and other stuff.
